Goal
The commitment to adopt sustainability practices in conferences is essential to reduce the environmental impact of the event. However, to organize an in-person scientific conference is not easy, knowledge sharing and fostering collaboration becomes essential to make those events indeed sustainability-aware. There are many oportunities to reduce the ecologic footprint of conferences, for instance related to long-distance travel, resource consumption in the organization and hosting of the event, and the waste generated during the conference.
Our vision in SUSTConf is to deliver a framework that supports organizers of conferences that do not only advances scientific research, but also maintain ecologic responsibility. As such, SUSTConf aims to provide actionable strategies that minimize environmental footprint and raise awareness of sustainability practices within the research community.
Who is with us?
SUSTConf started in 2026 with ICSA and ECSA through a collaboration between Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. We are open-source and invite the community to contribute ideas, suggestions, and improvements to the framework.
